Recommended sizes & shapes
Most military patches are 3 to 4 inches on the longest side. Circles and shields suit emblem-style designs; 2 × 3 inch rectangles fit loop panels; arcs and tabs let you add a unit name above or below the main patch.
Durability
Embroidered and woven patches with polyester thread resist fading and laundering; PVC patches are waterproof and ideal for gear that spends time outdoors. Hook backing lets patches move between uniforms, bags and helmets.
Design considerations
Keep the design to the essentials: one central symbol, a short name and a date. Use woven construction if you must include long text or small details. Military seals, branch emblems and unit insignia are protected — confirm you are authorized to use them before ordering.
